Recycling

Jenkintown has about 4,400 residents. Currently, our Borough voluntarily recycles approximately 24% of its waste. Some Green Jenkintown members visited Blue Mountain Recycling in August 2007 for a better understanding of how recycled materials are processed and for ideas as to how we can improve our recycling rate (Blue Mountain sees the potential for 15-20% increased recycling). One possible avenue is the local business community as a source of recycleables.

What is Single Stream Recycling?

Through Blue Mountain Recycling, the borough of Jenkintown utilizes Single-Stream technology, or Co-Mingling, to provide a revolutionary program that allows our residents to utilize one receptacle for virtually all of their recyclables.  This greatly reduces collection costs by eliminating the need for multi-compartment vehicles. Additionally, recycling rates typically increase 35% over multi-receptacle programs by simplifying the process for the resident.
